Past Interns

Dana LiebelsonDana Liebelson is an undergraduate at George Washington University, graduating this spring with a degree in International Affairs and Asian Studies. She is interested in both foreign affairs and journalism, and has written for the global magazine, Diplomatic Courier, the Washington City Paper, and for Cafe Abroad Magazine while studying in Melbourne, Australia. While in the District, she also interned for the non-profit organization, the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press. Her interests include human rights, women's rights and national security issues--particularly in Asia--and she spent last summer studying Mandarin in Harbin, China.

 

Melanie ButlerMelanie Butler recently earned an MA in Political Science at the University of British Columbia, Canada. A version of her Master’s thesis was published in the June 2009 issue of the Cambridge Review of International Affairs. Melanie has acted as a representative to the Canadian Peace Alliance, Canada's largest umbrella peace organization, and has helped found several student groups and educational initiatives dedicated to peace advocacy and gender equality in Canada. She is a regular volunteer at the Homeless Garden Project in Santa Cruz, California, where she also works part time for the NPR member station KUSP.

 

Louisa Butler has worked on new media communications projects for progressive nonprofits in the U.S. and abroad. Since graduating from Georgetown University, Louisa spent time in Cape Town, South Africa developing innovative multimedia for a national HIV/AIDS advocacy organization. While there, she also teamed up with community activists to create print and web materials for a grassroots campaign to educate local low-income communities about unjust water cutoffs and the privatization of other services. Louisa is currently studying multimedia and web development at San Francisco State University. 

 

CharitaCharita Law, originally from Southern California, is studying Sociology and Mass Communications at UC Berkeley. Before coming to ReThink Media, she was a research assistant for UC Berkeley's Jurisprudence and Social Policy (JSP) Program where she worked on a media audit of public interest law firms. She also worked on projects for the UC Berkeley Survey Research Center regarding water quality at public beaches and prenatal care for Californian women. She plans to study communications and public policy at the University of Hong Kong next fall.

 

 

Maggie Karoff has just arrived on the west coast--arriving from Boston-- to finish her undergraduate degree. Before landing at ReThink Media, she worked during the campaign season as a photographer and videographer for a traveling environmental education and advocacy organization. A transfer from NYU, she is currently taking a year off before returning to finish a degree this fall in Media and Environmental studies.
