Riding the Airwaves: Spreading Your Message Through Talk Radio
A panel discussion with radio news producers Carline Watson and Deen Karim
For too long, conservative talking heads have dominated the airwaves with a volatile mix of heated words, tepid regard for facts, and cold political calculation. How can a progressive agenda find traction in that blighted audio landscape?
ReThink Media is pleased to give its members a look into the world of thought-provoking, insightful and deliberating radio, with a panel discussion with top-level national and international radio producers and journalists. The 90-minute session will give the members the opportunity to ask the panelists about what sets radio apart from the other news media and learn how to make the most of those differences to help change the public debate on important progressive issues.
The panel is scheduled to include Carline Watson, supervising senior producer for National Public Radio’s “Talk of the Nation,” and Deen Karim, former producer of CBC Radio’s global affairs program, “Our World.” It will be moderated by ReThink NSHR Senior Associate Dave Saldana, a former radio public affairs and news producer, and media critic for Iowa Public Radio. With perspectives from national and international news, public and commercial radio, the panelists will offer participants a keen understanding of what it takes to draw the interest of a major newsradio outlet, and how to make the most of opportunities when they arise.
